Another wholesale gem and jewelry show in Massachusetts last weekend and we
focused on looking for gemstones for Fall and Winter. The big ‘finds’ were
silver toggles with faceted gemstones in Iolite, Citrine, Peridot, Garnet,
and Pearl. There were also some ornate Turkish silver beads with the same
faceted and cabochon gemstones that are similar to the Turkish silver beads
used in the bracelet #B030612 that everyone says looks like an antique–so
watch for them. Also, I found some white heart shaped freshwater pearls that
I was searching months for and some silver colored ones too. The pearl
wholesaler told me that there has been a disease in the pearl beds that is
ruining most of the pearls so the prices will be climbing. This may not
affect you too much because just how many pearls do you buy? But, she bought
these at the old price and passed the price to me and I, in turn, will pass
to you. I plan to combine them with birthstone gemstones for earrings since
everyone seems to like to give them as gifts.
We had a couple of shows in New London on the waterfront in June and early
July (check the website for the upcoming ones there). The show doesn’t have a
lot of crafters, but it’s worth the trip for visitors because there’s there
are other things to do like walk the waterfront, visit downtown New London
and its small museums, or take a short drive to other sites like Fort
Trumbull, the Coast Guard Academy, etc. So far, each show has had a live band
playing in the afternoon. When we’re not busy helping customers, it’s very
enjoyable to just sit and watch the water and listen to the music. There’ no
entrance fee for the New London Waterfront shows, but I think there will be
an entrance fee for the Waterford show.
Anklets and shell heishi and Hill Tribe silver necklaces were very popular (and still the watches!) I’ll focus on making more -especially different anklet styles. As for the Hill Tribe silver roses that I mentioned in my last newsletter, they’re sold except for a couple of pairs of earrings. I’ll try to get more of the elements for the necklaces; but, it will be limited because I only have 3 roses left.

far, it’s that everyone’s taste is different and hearing what you want makes
me think about jewelry in new ways that is inspiring.
